An important astrological week: Capricorn Full Moon, and much more

Today’s Capricorn Full Moon is being advertised in mainstream hype as a SuperMoon but it doesn’t technically meet the standards set by Richard Nolle who came up with that term in the 1970s as a way to describe a lunation, or syzygy, which was at its closest point to Earth and therefore more powerful.  In any case, the Full Moon is a potent force in and of itself.

We are at the equilibrium point of the Capricorn/Cancer polarity at a Capricorn Full Moon.  Our exterior experiences are filtered via the prism of feeling and emotion while the Sun is in Cancer.  The Moon in Capricorn, on the other hand, puts a lot of pressure on us to get things done, to find our footing and achieve a sense of grounded stability.  The Full Moon marks the end of the lunar cycle, and it’s a good opportunity to reflect on the previous few weeks and analyze where we are now before the next New Moon completes the cycle.

Saturn rules the Capricorn Full Moon, and Saturn is currently active in the sky.  It is in a sextile to Chiron, acting as a guide to help us move away from the anguish of emotional tragedies and toward greater mental and emotional wellness.  It is in the midpoint of a square to Uranus where it is challenging the areas where we want to break out of a rut but haven’t quite found a successful way in which to do so.

We also have a stressful opposition from Venus to Pluto that is potent right now – by itself it would be a fleeting influence of intense interpersonal drama, but as it is locked into the Full Moon chart it bears more weight.  How are our relationships (Venus) and our very sense of self (Pluto) affecting our ability to find this Capricorn/Cancer balance between our “shoulds” (Capricorn) and our longings (Cancer)?

And let’s not forget the intensely Piscean influence of spiritual yearning in the skies at the moment, with both Jupiter (traditional ruler) and Neptune (modern transformational ruler) of Pisces both in their own sign of Pisces.  This twin Pisces whammy could be just what the doctor ordered to bring Pisces’ age to a close in a flurry of spiritual perplexity and revelation.

So, what does it all mean for you?  A Full Moon’s energies are powerful and full of possibilities.  We can harness these Full Moon energies over the next several days to bring a wish or ambition to fruition by employing a realistic plan (Capricorn) and balancing our concerns and emotional highs and lows (Cancer) against a clear image of a more hopeful future. 💖
